Explore Route 66 With Your Family

Albuquerque is an incredible family-friendly destination on Route 66. Visit a nature center or a museum, or take everyone to cheer on a sports team. Families have many different options to choose from, making a kid-friendly vacation easy to plan. Explore some of the family-friendly activities that will make your family vacation one to remember.

Nature Centers

Located near Old Town, the ABQ BioPark encompasses four facilities dedicated to nature. The Zoo features hundreds of exhibits with wildlife native to New Mexico and from around the world. The Aquarium houses dozens of aquatic species, while the Botanic Garden has more than 30 acres of exhibits showcasing plants from across the globe. Tingley Beach is an outdoor recreation area with fishing ponds and access to walking trails. To the east of Albuquerque, stop by Wildlife West Nature Park to see dozens of local species in their natural habitat.

Museums

Take your family to explore some of the fun, unique museums in Albuquerque. In Old Town, stop by the dinosaur exhibits and planetarium at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science. Across the street is Explora, a hands-on science discovery museum geared towards children. Another special attraction is the American International Rattlesnake Museum, home to the world's largest collection of live rattlesnakes. Further east is the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, which delves into nuclear science and technology, and how it's being used today.

Outdoor Recreation

Get your family outdoors by taking them hiking, biking, skiing and more. Find hiking trails along the Rio Grande, while more experienced hikers can tackle the trails in the Sandia Mountains. Rent a bike and take a ride through the city.

Take the family to a sports game in Albuquerque. Cheer on the local baseball team, the Albuquerque Isotopes, the local soccer team, New Mexico United, or the local hockey team, the New Mexico Ice Wolves. The University of New Mexico Lobos also host exciting collegiate sports games throughout the school year.
