Know Before You Go
Before your visit it’s helpful to know a few key things about the local environment, especially the altitude and weather. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and make the most of your time in Albuquerque.
High Altitude:
Albuquerque is located at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet above sea level. Visitors who aren’t accustomed to higher altitudes may notice mild effects such as increased thirst or feeling tired more quickly. To stay comfortable, we recommend drinking plenty of water, incorporating electrolytes as needed, and pacing your consumption of alcohol and caffeine while your body adjusts.
Typical Weather Conditions:
May in Albuquerque is warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures typically ranging from the mid-70s to mid-80s°F (24–30°C). Mornings and evenings are still pleasant but cooler, often dipping into the 50s and low 60s°F (10–17°C), so light layers can be helpful. Breathable, lightweight clothing works well during the day, along with a hat or sunglasses for sun protection. The high-desert climate remains dry, making hydration and sunscreen important, especially when spending time outdoors.
