Know Before You Go
Before your visit it’s helpful to know a few key things about the local environment, especially the altitude and weather. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and make the most of your time in Albuquerque.
High Altitude:
Albuquerque is located at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet above sea level. Visitors who aren’t accustomed to higher altitudes may notice mild effects such as increased thirst or feeling tired more quickly. To stay comfortable, we recommend drinking plenty of water, incorporating electrolytes as needed, and pacing your consumption of alcohol and caffeine while your body adjusts.
Typical Weather Conditions:
January in Albuquerque is typically cold, with daytime temperatures usually ranging from the low 40s to mid-50s°F (5–13°C). Mornings and evenings can be especially chilly, often dipping into the 20s and 30s°F (-6 to 2°C), so warm clothing like coats, hats and gloves is recommended. While snowfall is possible, it's usually light and infrequent. The air remains dry, so it's still important to stay hydrated and use sun protection, especially if you're spending time outdoors.
