Retail Marijuana in Albuquerque

Possession of up to 2 ounces of marijuana for recreational use has been legal in New Mexico since June 29, 2021, for those 21 and older. Purchasing marijuana for recreational use became legal in the state on April 1, 2022.

Adults 21 and older are allowed to possess up to 2 ounces of cannabis, or 16 grams of cannabis extract, or 800 milligrams of edible cannabis at once. Marijuana cannot be consumed in a public place, although the state will approve licenses for cannabis consumption areas to allow public consumption. Businesses can offer on-site consumption if they meet certain requirements. It is legal in New Mexico to purchase recreational cannabis.

Marijuana use is still illegal at the federal level. It is illegal to transport marijuana from one state to another, even if it is legal to possess in both states.
