Know Before You Go

Before your visit it’s helpful to know a few key things about the local environment, especially the altitude and weather. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and make the most of your time in Albuquerque.

High Altitude:

Albuquerque is located over 5,000 feet above sea level. At this altitude, the air is thinner, which can lead to altitude-related symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, and dehydration, especially for those who aren’t acclimated. Be sure to stay hydrated with plenty of water and electrolytes, and monitor your alcohol and caffeine consumption until your body adjusts to the altitude.

Typical Weather Conditions:

Early September in Albuquerque tends to be warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures often reaching the 80s and sometimes 90s°F (27–32°C). Nights can be cooler, dipping into the 60s°F (15–20°C), making for a pleasant evening. The dry air can make it feel even hotter during the day, so be sure to stay hydrated and wear sun protection. While rain is possible it’s generally a great time to enjoy the outdoors, so pack light layers and comfortable clothing for both warm days and cooler evenings.
