Albuquerque, NM-Albuquerque's longest-standing brewery-Canteen Brewhouse (formerly Il Vicino Brewery)-added two national awards to their collection from the 2014 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition in Denver this weekend.

Canteen Brewhouse received a Gold Medal in the GABF American-Style Amber/Red Ale category for their Dougie Style Amber Ale, and a Silver Medal in the Aged Beer Category for Saint Bob's Imperial Stout '07.

Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition recognizing outstanding beers and breweries in the United States. Winners were chosen from 5,507 competition entries from 1,309 breweries, hailing from all 50 states. GABF medals are among the most coveted accolades in the brewing world.

One of the most-decorated breweries in New Mexico, Il Vicino produced their first beer in December of 1993 in the Nob Hill location of Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza. With this year's win, the brewery has garnered 13

Great American Beer Festival medals, seven World Beer Cup medals, and is a six-time winner of the New Mexico IPA Challenge. In all, the brewery lists over 115 awards won.

Canteen Brewhouse's current location in Albuquerque's Brewery District was opened in 2011. The 6,500-square-foot facility quickly gained popularity with craft beer enthusiasts, prompting a recent name change to further bolster the brewery's reputation-known internationally to an audience unaware of the pizza restaurant that spawned it.
