Know Before You Go

Before your visit it’s helpful to know a few key things about the local environment, especially the altitude and weather. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and make the most of your time in Albuquerque.

High Altitude:

Albuquerque is located at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet above sea level. Visitors who aren’t accustomed to higher altitudes may notice mild effects such as increased thirst or feeling tired more quickly. To stay comfortable, we recommend drinking plenty of water, incorporating electrolytes as needed, and pacing your consumption of alcohol and caffeine while your body adjusts.

Typical Weather Conditions:
December in Albuquerque can be dry and chilly, with mornings typically being the coldest. Daytime highs average in the mid-40s to low 50s°F (7–11°C), while nighttime temperatures can drop to below freezing. While snow is possible, but infrequent, it is still highly recommended to pack layers, including a warm coat or jacket.

Getting to Albuquerque
