Know Before You Go
Before your visit it’s helpful to know a few key things about the local environment, especially the altitude and weather. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and make the most of your time in Albuquerque.
High Altitude:
Albuquerque is located at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet above sea level. Visitors who aren’t accustomed to higher altitudes may notice mild effects such as increased thirst or feeling tired more quickly. To stay comfortable, we recommend drinking plenty of water, incorporating electrolytes as needed and pacing your consumption of alcohol and caffeine while your body adjusts.
Typical Weather Conditions:
Early August in Albuquerque is typically hot and sunny, with daytime temperatures often climbing into the upper 80s to mid-90s°F (31–35°C). Evenings are usually more comfortable, with nighttime temperatures cooling into the 60s°F (15–20°C). The dry air can make it feel even hotter during the day, so be sure to stay hydrated and wear sun protection. While rain is possible it’s generally a great time to enjoy the outdoors, so pack light layers and comfortable clothing for both warm days and cooler evenings.
