Music Under the Stars - Son Como Son

Son Como Son bills itself as Salsa Cuban Style. Founded in 1993 it is unquestionably one of Albuquerque’s longest-standing and most popular salsa ensembles, they play regularly to packed audiences comprising highly animated and dedicated, salseros at the NM Jazz Workshop’s Salsa Under the Stars Series; at The Cooperage; as well as at special concerts such as those at the Telluride Jazz Festival. They are directed by renowned trombonist, vocalist, percussionist, composer, and arranger César Bauvallet who moved from Havana, Cuba to Albuquerque in 1992. In addition to César Bauvallet, Son Como Son comprises some of Albuquerque’s most accomplished and busiest musicians.

SON COMO SON IS: César Bauvallet, director; Kanoa Kaluhiwa, tenor sax; John Simms, Trumpet, background vocals; Mary Wommack, piano, background vocals; Janet Harman, bass, background vocals; Víctor Rodríguez, bongos, lead vocals; Lester Rodríguez, lead vocals; Tomás White, drums, timbales; Ricky Carrido congas; and Loren Lujan vocals.

All shows 7-10 pm, doors open at 6:30. Shows held at Albuquerque Museum Amphitheater (2000 Mountain Rd. NW). Parking is free in the Museum lot, on surface streets, and North of the museum in the open parking lots.

All ages are welcome. Kids under 12 get in free of charge.

Lawn chairs for grass seating / picnics welcome (keep in mind space is limited; ABSOLUTELY NO outside alcoholic beverages or glass, please)

Food and drink available from Slate Street Cafe at Museum Amphitheater

All shows rain or shine, no refunds due to inclement weather. Shows may be cancelled for safety reasons due to the presence of lightning within 5 miles of the amphitheater.  A New Mexico Jazz staff member will inform guests in this instance.
