Visit Albuquerque Opens Route 66 Crossroads Information Station
New visitor information center at the historic Route 66 Crossroads offers trip-planning resources, photo opportunities, locally made products and free Centennial souvenirs
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – (Aug. 12, 2026) – As travelers continue visiting Albuquerque to celebrate the Route 66 Centennial, Visit Albuquerque has opened the Route 66 Crossroads Information Station at the historic Route 66 Crossroads (4th Street and Central Avenue), providing visitor information, local products and interactive experiences to help guests make the most of their journey along the Mother Road.
“With Route 66's Centennial bringing travelers from around the world to Albuquerque, we wanted to create a welcoming place where visitors can begin their journey, learn more about our city and experience the spirit of Route 66 at the only place where the Route crosses itself,” said Tania Armenta, Visit Albuquerque President & CEO. “We're grateful to the Garcia family and Garcia Realty and Development, owners of the Rosenwald Building, for helping make this visitor experience possible.”
Located at the intersection of the pre-1937 (north-to-south) and post-1937 (east-to-west) alignments of Route 66, the Information Station offers visitor resources, complimentary Route 66 postcards that can be mailed anywhere in the world, a digital photo booth and a replica classic car photo opportunity. Visitors can also pick up the 2026 Visit Albuquerque Visitors Guide and additional travel information to help plan their stay.
Inside, walls feature hand-painted lettering by local illustrator Chad Lindsay of West Hand Signs, whose extensive research into post-war roadside signage informed authentic lettering styles and details inspired by Route 66's vintage signs. A new Route 66 sculpture will soon be installed, creating another memorable photo opportunity for guests.
Visitors can also take home an Albuquerque souvenir from two on-site vending machines. One features products from local businesses, including salsa from Sadie’s of New Mexico, cookies from Celina’s Biscochitos and kombucha from Urbanmama505, with proceeds supporting the participating small businesses. The second vending machine offers free Route 66 Centennial prize packs—including commemorative sunglasses, a bandana and a keychain (colors vary)—to visitors who register their information.
“We wanted to create a fun, memorable stop that gives visitors another reason to explore Albuquerque's Route 66 corridor,” said Brooke Jung, Vice President of Destination Development & Community Engagement for Visit Albuquerque. “Whether someone is stopping for travel tips, a photo or a local souvenir, the Information Station adds another unique experience to the Route 66 Centennial celebration.”
The Information Station is located in the Rosenwald Building on the southeast corner of the Route 66 Crossroads (4th Street and Central Avenue) in downtown Albuquerque. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
