Know Before You Go
Before your visit it’s helpful to know a few key things about the local environment, especially the altitude and weather. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and make the most of your time in Albuquerque.
High Altitude:
Albuquerque is located at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet above sea level. Visitors who aren’t accustomed to higher altitudes may notice mild effects such as increased thirst or feeling tired more quickly. To stay comfortable, we recommend drinking plenty of water, incorporating electrolytes as needed, and pacing your consumption of alcohol and caffeine while your body adjusts.
Typical Weather Conditions:
April in Albuquerque brings mild, sunny days and cool mornings and evenings. Daytime temperatures typically range from the mid-60s to low 70s°F (18–23°C), while mornings and evenings can dip into the 40s°F (4–9°C). Lightweight layers are ideal for changing temperatures throughout the day, with a jacket or sweater recommended for cooler mornings and evenings. Albuquerque’s high-desert climate remains relatively dry, so hydration and sun protection are recommended, especially when spending time outdoors.
