Know Before You Go

Before your visit it’s helpful to know a few key things about the local environment, especially the altitude and weather. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and make the most of your time in Albuquerque.

High Altitude:

Albuquerque is located at an elevation of just over 5,000 feet above sea level. Visitors who aren’t accustomed to higher altitudes may notice mild effects such as increased thirst or feeling tired more quickly. To stay comfortable, we recommend drinking plenty of water, incorporating electrolytes as needed, and pacing your consumption of alcohol and caffeine while your body adjusts.

Typical Weather Conditions:

October in Albuquerque brings crisp mornings, mild afternoons and cool evenings. Daytime temperatures typically range from the upper 60s to mid-70s°F (19–24°C), while mornings and evenings can dip into the 40s and 50s°F (4–15°C). Layers are recommended, with a light jacket or sweater helpful for cooler mornings and nights. Albuquerque's high-desert climate remains relatively dry, so comfortable layers, hydration and sun protection are recommended, especially when spending time outdoors.

Getting to Albuquerque

Getting to Albuquerque is easy. Most major airlines serve the Albuquerque International Sunport including Alaska Airlines, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and United.

There are nonstop flights to and from more than 20 cities in the United States. Lack of congestion at the Albuquerque Airport (Sunport) means visitors experience very few ground delays.

Getting Around The City

There are many ways to get around Albuquerque during your stay. With taxi services and all major rideshare apps it is easy to connect with a reliable ride. Buses are also available for transportation to many of Albuquerque's cultural attractions, and the Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) bus provides free and easy access to and from the Nob Hill, University and Downtown neighborhoods.
