Origami In the Garden 2026 Opening!

Overview

We are so excited to be open for our 2026 season!  It is the Year of the Horse, and driven by a spirit that refuses to yield, our Painted Ponies sculpture on display in our Cerrillos garden, represent the strength and tenacity of natural leaders. Their sharp, origami lines emphasize the agile intelligence found in a horse's harnessed energy. Bold colors and dynamic galloping poses capture a sense of unstoppable momentum, reflecting our own drive to excel this year. Designed in collaboration, Kevin Box and Chinese American origami master Te Jui Fu, created a partnership that fittingly began with Painted Ponies.  They hoped to capture and celebrate this animal that embodies bravery, adventure, innovation, and frontier exploration. These same qualities have defined both artists' careers. Kevin's pursuit of sculptural "paper" in its most durable and tactile form led him to pioneer techniques for casting paper in bronze and crafting metal to mimic origami's distinctive folds. Te Jui Fu has been folding origami since childhood and continues to share his expertise as an instructor to children, adults, novice and advanced folders since his high school years.

ORIGAMIINTHEGARDEN, created by Jennifer and Kevin Box, is a monumental outdoor sculpture exhibition in Cerrillos NM, featuring origami inspired museum-quality metal art. Kevin Box has pioneered a unique process that transforms delicate paper origami into large-scale metal sculptures. Working with foundries, fabrication shops, and his studio team, he creates artworks that feel naturally at home in garden settings—a fitting tribute to origami's origins in plant-based paper. The exhibition showcases Box's original compositions alongside collaborations with his wife Jennifer Box and world-renowned origami artists Te Jui Fu, Beth Johnson, Michael G. LaFosse, and Robert J. Lang.
