Tourism to Albuquerque Will Be Highlighted at Phoenix Sky Harbor During the 2023 Big Game

Advertisements at Phoenix Sky Harbor encourage trips to Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – (Feb. 9, 2023) – Visitors to Arizona for the NFL Championship game on Feb. 12 and the 2023 WM Phoenix Open Feb. 9-12 will see messages encouraging them to visit Albuquerque as soon as they land at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Visit Albuquerque has invested in promotions in the Arizona market in alignment with two of the nation’s biggest sporting events to elevate awareness of the city and highlight reasons to plan a trip to Albuquerque.

Albuquerque’s presence will be noticed when visitors arrive at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Through a dedicated advertising campaign, travelers will see messages throughout Terminal 4, where the gates for Southwest Airlines and American Airlines are located, encouraging them to visit Albuquerque.

More than 40 ads are displayed on monitors in the baggage claim area with the tagline “Bags may look alike. Vacations shouldn’t.” In addition, four window wraps that promote travel to Albuquerque are located along the moving walkways in the Terminal 4 concourses. The window wraps feature oversized photos that showcase some of the outdoor recreation opportunities, cultural experiences and unique attractions that can only be found in Albuquerque.

“Albuquerque has so many things to offer, from its centuries of history and rich cultural traditions to plentiful outdoor adventures and one-of-a-kind cuisine,” said Tania Armenta, President & CEO of Visit Albuquerque. “We are excited about the opportunity to highlight the city’s many assets within one of the country’s busiest airports – particularly at a time when so many visitors will be passing through – and we can’t wait to welcome these travelers to Albuquerque on their next trip.”

Phoenix Sky Harbor is one of the top 10 busiest airports in the country, and Visit Albuquerque’s ads are estimated to deliver over 117 million impressions. The ads, which were made possible with additional marketing funds generated by overnight stays at lodging properties in the Albuquerque Tourism Marketing District, will be on display through July 2023 and purposely align with the NFL Championship game taking place in Glendale, Arizona, on Feb. 12, which is expected to draw a crowd of more than 70,000 people. The campaign timeframe is also aligned with American Airlines’ November 2022 announcement that it will operate an additional 54 flights between the Albuquerque International Sunport and Phoenix Sky Harbor between Feb. 9 and Feb. 14, ahead of this year’s Big Game.
