Albuquerque to Host IEEE Quantum Week Conference

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – (Aug. 26, 2025) – Albuquerque will host the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) Quantum Week Conference from Aug. 31–Sept. 5 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The global conference on quantum computing and emerging technologies is expected to draw over 1,400 attendees from around the world—including more than 350 students—generate over 3,100 hotel room nights and contribute an estimated $1.5 million in direct spending to the local economy.

With a technical and keynote program that unveils perspectives from quantum Nobel Laureates David Wineland of the University of Oregon and William Phillips of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to the latest developments with IBM’s Quantum initiative and the growing impact of quantum on the Albuquerque region, IEEE Quantum Week reveals how quantum technology is shaping the future. The conference will debut new research in more than 260 paper presentations, and upwards of 80 exhibiting companies will share the quantum technologies that are being applied to the benefit of society today.

“The world stands to benefit from the increasing accessibility of quantum computing,” said Candace Culhane, 2025 IEEE Quantum Week General Chair. “Quantum technology supports advanced computing to enable the more complicated algorithms that are fueling drug discovery, disease mitigation, financial and information security and optimization, and so much more. Annually, IEEE Quantum Week brings together the community responsible for these next-level quantum advances, and we look forward to unveiling the latest developments in Albuquerque next week.”

“Quantum Week is a powerful example of how Albuquerque’s history of scientific leadership and growing technology ecosystem can attract prestigious, forward-thinking events,” said Tania Armenta, President & CEO of Visit Albuquerque. “This conference will bring together some of the brightest minds in the field, while also delivering significant economic benefits to our community.”

Quantum Week underscores the rich history of science and technology inherent to New Mexico, from serving as home to two U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories to fostering a growing network of tech startups, research institutions and higher education leaders. Hosting an event of this caliber is the result of collaboration among many partners including the New Mexico Economic Development Department, the City of Albuquerque Economic Development Department, Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the University of New Mexico, Central New Mexico Community College, Elevate Quantum, Visit Albuquerque, the Albuquerque Convention Center, Downtown hotels, and other community and hospitality partners.

By bringing together leading experts, researchers and innovators, IEEE Quantum Week will not only spotlight Albuquerque’s role in the future of quantum technology but also enhance the city’s visibility as a hub for cutting-edge industries.

“Events of this caliber reflect our dedicated efforts to elevate Albuquerque as a meeting destination that combines intellectual capital with cultural authenticity,” said Armenta. “Quantum Week is a standout example of how these types of events can positively shape our economic trajectory and national reputation.”
