Albuquerque to Host First USA Boxing National Tournament of 2024

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Jan. 12, 2024 – USA Boxing will officially bring the first national tournament of 2024 to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 2024 National Open will take place March 9-16 at the Albuquerque Convention Center, bringing USA Boxing back to the city for the first time since the 2017 and 2018 Western Qualifiers.

“We are honored to host USA Boxing’s first National Tournament of the year and excited to welcome hundreds of athletes to our city as they compete for a spot in the 2024 National Championships,” said Tania Armenta, President and CEO of Visit Albuquerque.

“Amateur boxing is highly competitive, and spectators will have the opportunity to watch men and women in all weight classes who could be future Olympic athletes.” Armenta also pointed out Albuquerque’s long history with the sport. “Our city nurtured and developed amateur boxing legends who later had successful professional careers, including International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Bobby Foster, former IBF world flyweight champion Danny Romero, and former IBF super flyweight champion Johnny Tapia. We are proud to host the next generation of champions in our city during the USA Boxing tournament.”

“USA Boxing is excited to bring our members to Albuquerque where the hospitality is first-rate, the climate is terrific, the scenery is one of a kind, cuisine, and culture is unique, and costs remain below the national average,” stated Michael Campbell, USA Boxing Senior Manager of Events and Operations. “Visit Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Sports Commission have proven to be great partners with our organization, and we appreciate their hard work and pursuit to get us back to the 505.”

The week-long tournament will be open to boxers in the PeeWee to Elite age divisions and non-citizens in all age divisions as long as they meet the minimum bout and minimum win percentage requirements, as shown below.

Registration for the event is now open and will remain open until Friday, Feb. 23.
