The Gathering of Nations is the largest pow wow in North America. It happens every April at EXPO New Mexico. Spring in Albuquerque typically features chilly mornings with highs in the low 70s Fahrenheit. Be sure to bring a sweater or jacket because spring can also be windy, making it seem colder than it actually is. Pack lots of layers to be prepared for whatever temperature it is outside.

Festival Flamenco de Alburquerque

For nine days in June, Albuquerque celebrates the beautiful art of flamenco with performances across the city from world-renowned artists. Daytime temperatures in June tend to be in the 80- to 90-degree range, so bring lightweight clothes that are good for warm temperatures. Most performances occur indoors, so consider bringing a light jacket in case the air conditioning is on full blast.

Route 66 Summerfest

Experience everything the Nob Hill neighborhood has to offer during Route 66 Summerfest. This July celebration takes place outside along Route 66, with lowrider cars, live music and more. Temperatures can reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, so sunscreen is key. Dress in light, breezy clothing, and don’t forget to bring a hat and sunglasses.

New Mexico State Fair

Experience agriculture, art, games, shopping and more at the New Mexico State Fair every September. Expect high temperatures outside to be in the 80-degree range, so dress for warm weather. Much of the New Mexico State Fair is outdoors, so attendees will be walking around in the heat. Comfortable shoes are a good idea.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The ExxonMobil Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta® takes place during the first full week of October. Experience hundreds of hot air balloons floating over your head in a magical display of beauty. Days begin early, with crowds gathering at the field by 6 a.m. Morning temperatures can be chilly, but rise quickly once the sun rises. The key is lots of layers, along with a hat, gloves and sunglasses.

Día de los Muertos in Old Town

Plaza Don Luis in Old Town is decorated for Dia de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos takes place Nov. 1 and 2, but Old Town Albuquerque has an event that runs the last week of October to celebrate the holiday. Albuquerque starts feeling more like fall in late October, so be sure to pack a jacket and pants. Many of the Día de los Muertos events involve walking outside, so be ready for temperatures in the 50s and 60s Fahrenheit.

River of Lights

The Spanish Gardens at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden is lit up for River of Lights

River of Lights is a spectacular display of holiday lights and sculptures at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden from late November to late December. You’ll be walking around in the evening after the sun has gone down, so bring a warm jacket, hat, gloves and a scarf. If you’re still cold, grab a cup of hot chocolate or apple cider to warm up.
