Opening Reception: May 4, 2018 @ 5pm
Although an avid art enthusiast growing up, Cavan earned her degree in history from Brown University. After spending the early part of her adult life in the corporate world in Chicago, Cavan decided to pursue her love of art when New Mexico's clarity of light, rich feeling of tradition and strong sense of place pulled her “home”. She and her husband quit their corporate jobs and moved to the mountains of northern New Mexico. Shortly thereafter, she began working with oil pastels. Cavan combines her love of history with her passion for the New Mexico landscape to create art that reflects the timelessness of that subject matter. Relying on photographs, sketches and memories of places she has found on the back roads of New Mexico, Cavan uses vibrant, saturated colors, bold compositions and slightly altered perspectives to present, rather than represent, this special place.
Reg Loving has been a mainstay to the New Mexico art scene for decades. Many might think of Reg as a contemporary painter yet recently in the past few years he has focused on a landscape theme. Yes some are traditional landscapes and others are Reg's version of a contemporary landscape. His work is in many corporate collections ranging from IBM, Merrill Lynch, Amoco Citicorp, Wellsfargo Bank to name a few plus he is in the permanent collections of the Albuquerque and Santa Fe Museums of Art.
