“Second Thought” is an exhibit of original works by Will McConnell of Platoro Jewelry Studio. The line coincides with Will’s personal journey of reflection and reinvention, where old scrap, failed pieces, and otherwise unwanted silver is melted down and formed into a new body of work using rough and rudimentary processes. It started as a mistake, a project that didn’t go as planned. That frustration, met with a 3000 degree flame, quickly turned the failed work into a pool of molten silver. It cooled into a blob that sat on the bench for years. Early 2025 he took a hammer to that silver blob (in another fit of frustration) and turned it into a form he liked, inspiring new ideas that have become distinct to the Platoro name. Since then the process has become more intentional. It includes melting, hammering, piercing, and soldering the metal into timeless designs. The intent is to pay homage to the flaws and blemishes that landed the material in the scrap bin originally, the work celebrates the reimagining of materials and the exploration of fabrication techniques.”
