Resale Art Show Opening Reception

Weems Gallery and Framing is presenting a resale art show in August featuring more than 250 works by well-known artists, either current or deceased, from the private collections of area residents.

Weems sponsored a similar resale art show for the first time last year in response to frequent inquiries from people who are settling an estate, downsizing or redecorating but don’t know where to turn when it comes to selling their artwork.

“We get calls almost every week from people who are interested in reselling art on consignment,” said gallery owner Sheila McVeigh. “The response to last year’s show was so good, we knew it had to become an annual event.”

This year’s event will be held Aug. 2 to 17, with an opening reception on Aug. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Weems, 5935 Wyoming Blvd. NE. It’s being held concurrently with the Great Southwestern Antique Show (Aug. 3-4), which brings a large influx of art collectors to Albuquerque.

Included in the show will be works by mostly New Mexico artists, both living and deceased. Last year’s show, for example, featured works by Hans Ressdorf, Betty Sabo, Paul Sanchez, RC Gorman, Phil Hulebak, Jean Martin, Kevin Redstar, Amado Pena, Frank Howell, Patricia Rose and many others.

“The gallery gets frequent requests from collectors who are interested in purchasing art by noted artists who aren’t currently represented at Weems,” said Suzanne Woodworth, gallery manager. “This resale show is the perfect avenue for connecting sellers and buyers, and we’re excited to be able to present it again this year.”
