June 29 & 30 10 am to 4 pm each day on the Visitor Information Center Patio
Cultural Demonstration: Pottery of Jemez Pueblo
Description: Join Dolores Toya as she transforms clay mud pies to a beautiful formed bowl, jar or wedding vase. Dolores begins her pottery creations by trekking out to ancestral clay collecting sites near her village, then processes the clay by cleaning it, sifting it, mixing it with water, then letting it cure until the time is right.
Dolores will set up on the visitor center patio, weather permitting, and will demonstrate the technique of traditional, hand-shaped pottery before your eyes.
This demonstration is open to the public and free to attend. This demonstration is possible by support from Western National Parks Association (WNPA).
