Plant Medicine // An Altar by Alexandra Bowers

Join Lapis Room art gallery in welcoming "Plant Medicine // An Altar by Alexandra Bowers." The show begins March 20th and is on view until May 4th, everyday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Bowers recently suffered the sudden loss of a beloved pet, and out of the grief and shock she produced works of immense, lush beauty exploring her relationship with herbal cures and how they help her through tough times---like the loss of a friend.

As Bowers herself describes the show, "'Plant Medicine' can mean many different things to many people. When I hear those two words together, I think of my great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother. All women who utilized (and still use, specifically my mom) medicinal herbs to heal physical ailments and wounded hearts. I think of the words when they are separated. What plant or plants give me comfort, or heal my soul? What symbols in nature feel like "medicine?" I’ve been pondering these thoughts for many months, and I hope to convey all the sentiments that drive home these ideas in my mind for this show....

We will all experience profound loss at some point in our lives. It’s what we signed up for in this "human experience." I hope that “Plant Medicine” will bring some healing and comfort to those who see the show, and who have also experienced great loss....

And as I’ve created each piece, my heart too slowly begins to heal."
