Bloch Concerto Grosso in g minor
Haydn Symphony No. 104, “London”
In the early 20th century, Swiss-born Ernest Bloch rebooted and modernized the Baroque genre with his lyrical Concerto Grosso, mostly written in Santa Fe. Also featured in this pre-Thanksgiving Sunday performance, the last of Haydn’s “London” Symphonies, No. 104—is filled with vitality and innovation. Written during the composer’s years spent in London—these works set the standard against which every other symphony was measured at the time.
