Lecture: Myths and Mysteries of New Mexico - New Mexico Philharmonic Music & Arts Festival


Join folklorist and researcher Benjamin Radford as he describes his first-hand investigations into some of New Mexico’s most famous and fascinating mysteries, from Albuquerque’s famous KiMo theater ghost to Santa Fe’s miraculous staircase. How much of these stories is fact, and how much is fiction? Come find out! Radford is an award-winning author of ten books including Mysterious New Mexico: Miracles, Magic, and Monsters in the Land of Enchantment; Tracking the Chupacabra: The Vampire Beast in Fact, Fiction, and Folklore; and Investigating Ghosts: The Scientific Search for Spirits.

Following the talk, Geeks Who Drink Pub Quizzes will present a Quiz for a Cause to benefit the NMPhil’s Young Musician Initiative (donations accepted) at 7:30 p.m.

Benjamin Radford is deputy editor of Skeptical Inquirer science magazine and a Research Fellow with the non-profit educational organization the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry; his colleagues there include Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson. He has written thousands of articles on a wide variety of topics, including urban legends, mysterious phenomena, critical thinking, and media literacy. He is author, co-author or contributor to over twenty books and has won awards for his books, films, and podcasts. Radford has been quoted as an expert by hundreds of media outlets including CNN, ABC News, BBC, CBC, The New York Times, Gizmodo, Forbes, The New York Times Magazine,The (London) Times Literary Supplement, Fortean Times, the Huffington Post, Scientific American, Wall Street Journal, Wired, and Vanity Fair. He has also appeared on dozens of television shows including Good Morning America and on the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, and the National Geographic Channel.
Radford has a Masters degree in Education and a Bachelors degree in Psychology, and is a member of the American Folklore Society.
