Keyon Harrold Quintet

Overview

A graduate of the renowned jazz program at the New School’s Mannes School of Music in NYC, Keyon Harrold is an eclectic virtuoso trumpeter, arranger, and songwriter who has been featured on nearly 100 albums in myriad genres, including jazz, R&B, pop, gospel, blues, and hip hop. Born and raised in Ferguson, MO, the St. Louis suburb that tore into America’s national consciousness in 2014 with the police shooting of Michael Brown and the bitter protests and riots that followed, Harrold grew up as one of 16 children in a family that prioritized music and community across generations. After graduating from the New School, Harrold quickly began performing with Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Beyonce, Rihanna, Eminem, Maxwell, and Anthony Hamilton, and in 2009, he released his solo debut, Introducing Keyon Harrold. He was also praised for his trumpet performances in Don Chealdle’s Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead. His 2017 release, The Mugician, which refers to Cheadle’s nickname for him being both a “musician” and “magician,” was described as “sweeping and cinematic.” An examination of our troubled times, the album draws on elements of jazz, classical, rock, blues, and hip hop, making it “uniquely modern and unmistakably American.”
