Kadomatsu in the Japanese Garden

Overview

Come on December 14 at 1 p.m. for an entertaining and educational workshop on creating Kadomatsu in the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden's Heritage Farm Cider Barn. They will then be on display afterward through January 15.

Kadomatsu is a Japanese New Year's tradition of pine and bamboo arrangements. These arrangements flank the gates of the BioPark's Japanese Garden.

Kadomatsu are said to attract beneficial spirits and are full of symbolism, representing virtues such as strength, flexibility, vitality, and purity.

Visit the Botanic Garden to join in this 600-year-old Shinto tradition.
