Intro to Matting & Framing w/ Sarah

Are you an artist interested in learning how to mat and frame your own work for exhibition? Come to this class, and learn the basics of dry-mounting artwork, matting (please note: this class does not include instruction in mat cutting), and framing.

*** Students are encouraged to bring a piece of their own artwork, sized at 5”x7”!

Don’t have a small piece to work with? No problem! Pick from a selection of 5”x7” artwork provided by the instructor.

All materials required to mount, mat, and frame a 5”x7” piece of artwork into an 8”x10” frame are included in the course fee.

Our hands-on practice with provided materials will include:

- Dry-mount of artwork onto a backer board

- Assembling backer board and mat

- Installing prepared artwork into an 8”x10” frame

- Installing hanging hardware

We’ll also discuss:

- What are archival materials, and why (and when) are they important?

- Mat thicknesses and backer boards

- Adhesive selection for dry mounting

- Supplier options for mats, backer boards, and frames
