Bukhara, in the Central Asian country of Uzbekistan, began as a trading and cultural center on the ancient Silk Road and today is home to some of the finest artisans in the world.

Santa Fe and Bukhara are Sister Cities and share a history as centers of trade and the arts. As a result the artisans of Bukhara have attended the Santa Fe Folk Art Market every year since it’s inception until 2020 when the pandemic brought the world to a standstill.

In 2021 local documentary filmmaker Greg Polk traveled to Bukhara to make a film about how the pandemic was affecting the artists and to document their optimistic preparations for a post pandemic future.

Embroidered Connections: Santa Fe and Bukhara presents an immersive experience of the sites and sounds of Bukhara and takes the viewer into many if its artisan workshops. It also captures the indomitable spirit of the city and the hopefulness as the artists prepare for the long awaited return to the Santa Fe Folk Art Market.
