Join Lapis Room as we celebrate the latest series from painter, Eason Eige. In his new show he explores the beautiful complexity of bones and skulls. Enjoy Eige’s painterly still lifes inspired by his own collection and that of our local Rattlesnake Museum! The Show is on-view inside Lapis Room from 10:00 am Thursday, May 29th, until 6:00 pm Sunday, July 6th.
The show is an exploration of objects that are with us and around us everyday, but we often never notice. In Eige's own words, “I paint best when I’m able to explore a single vision in series. I’m an avid collector of art and objects and it’s the way I’ve always approached painting, too. In past years I’ve painted cactus, my hats, and my dogs and cat.
This current show is a series of paintings of bones and skulls. The beautiful complexity of skulls offers a challenge to the painter. The familiar human skulls and the seldom encountered and seemingly exotic bones of long lost or extinct creatures offer a challenge for the artist. To capture the light and shadow on a great skull of the long extinct saber tooth tiger, or the drama of a warthog, recalls images we seldom experience.
I had so much fun becoming familiar with the dramatic bones of the Earth’s creatures past and present. I’m indebted to the owner of the rattlesnake museum, Bob, who gave me access to actual skulls I otherwise couldn’t have used as models. I trust collectors will enjoy the paintings as much as I have enjoyed painting them!”
