Two coronation anthems written for King George II by George Frederic Handel are just some of the majestic music that will showcase the talents of the approximately 100 voices from the UNM University Chorus and First Presbyterian Choir. Accompanied by a grand pipe organ and chamber orchestra, the voices will soar as they sing works by English and American composers with a kingly theme.
The kingly theme pervades the whole program, as well as the general theme of music of the kingdom of England. In addition to the Handel anthems, the program also includes works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Aaron Copland,Herbert Howells, H. Balfour Gardiner and others. Each choral group will sing some compositions separately before recombining for the larger works. For the combined choir pieces, UNM Director of Choral Studies, David Edmonds will be conducting as First Presbyterian Music Director James Yeager plays the organ.
