Powerful music from Johannes Brahms and Gabriel Fauré will be presented by the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus, the NMPhil and baritone Stephen Lewis. Maestro Roger Melone will conduct.
This concert with Johannes Brahms’ Four Songs and Gabriel Fauré’s intensely moving Requiem will be one to remember. Written when Brahms was just 27 and in a tender, vulnerable period, Four Songs is beautiful and gripping. Of his Requiem, Fauré stated: "It has been said that my Requiem does not express the fear of death and someone has called it a lullaby of death. But it is thus that I see death: as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than as a painful experience. . . . I wanted to write something different.”
