Overview

The Chicharra Poetry Slam Festival is a 3-day arts festival bringing more than 75 of the nation’s top poets and spoken word artists, including Grammy winners, to Albuquerque to celebrate the healing power and community building capabilities of poetry.

The second largest poetry slam event in the nation, Chicharra features a diverse array of talented artists, the festival inspires and uplifts our communities by providing opportunities for people of all ages to attend workshops, engage in learning and leadership development, and participate in themed readings designed to elevate marginalized voices. Every event is open to the public and poets of any experience level may participate in the events.

To ensure accessibility for all, including our youth, seniors and income restricted individuals, the festival is free to attend (with the exception of the Finals Stage, our only ticketed event).

Sponsored in part by the City of Albuquerque Arts & Culture Department and Cheeky Monkey Tattoos
