Albuquerque, NM - February 25, 2013 - On April 15, 1912, the world’s largest Ship sank 963 miles northeast of New York City after colliding with an iceberg. Most people, young and old, know of this Ship –Titanic, the Ship of dreams, the Ship that regretfully came to a tragic end.
However, from this tragedy, emerged heartfelt stories of the passengers that were on the Ship that fateful morning when Titanic sank. Details of the Ship’s demise became worldwide news and still, to this day, the history of Titanic lives on.
And, now, visitors to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science will have the opportunity to learn of the compelling human stories of those passengers on board through viewing Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, featuring authentic artifacts recovered from the wreck site of the world’s most famous sunken ocean liner. Visitors can experience accurate recreations of the Ship’s interior and can even experience the true nature of an iceberg.
On March 23, 2013, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will make its New Mexico debut. The blockbuster Exhibition, from Premier Exhibitions out of Atlanta, GA, seen by more than 25 million people worldwide, will be on exhibit at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science through October 27, 2013.
About the Exhibit
Just over a century after the Ship’s sinking, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition showcases 125 artifacts recovered from the wreck site, taking the visitor on a journey back in time through the life of Titanic, paying tribute to the passengers that both perished and survived the tragedy.
The story of Titanic is a good fit for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. “The science and engineering that went into the Ship’s construction, the recovery of artifacts from the deep ocean floor, and the powers of nature that led to the tragedy all have a direct link to the Museum’s role of supporting science learning for the citizens of New Mexico. And, the very human story of the Titanic tragedy is something that draws individuals who want to experience what it was like to be aboard that Ship on that cold April night 101 years ago” said Charles Walter, Executive Director of the Museum.
Admission
Admission to the exhibit is $18.00 -adults, $15.00 -seniors and $11.00 - children. A special discount is offered for museum members at $6.00 per person. Advance tickets will go on sale online via an official announcement from the Museum in early March.
