Revolutions International Theatre Festival starts off the 2012 theatrical season
Albuquerque is abuzz with dozens of theatrical performances in the new year
ALBUQUERQUE, NM —Albuquerque has always been an artistic hub in the Southwest, but you may not realize that the city is among the country’s top for theatre. In fact, more theatrical performances occur in Albuquerque every weekend than in any other US city of its size, especially in winter and spring, when performances are plentiful.Dozens of theater companies and hundreds of artists will be gathering in Albuquerque this month for the 12th Annual Revolutions International Theatre Festival. Being the largest festival of its kind in the Southwest, the Revolutions Festival is an event not to be missed. The festival kicks off on January 10th and runs through January 29th. There will be 10 main events and five local Albuquerque special events during the 19 days of the festival. Revolutions is a collaborative international artistic effort from theatre companies from the United States, France, Switzerland, Israel, Mexico and Italy. Popejoy Hall, the University of New Mexico’s main performance hall and the largest venue in the state, is another excellent outlet for theatrical performances. Popejoy Hall hosts a number of touring Broadway shows; live theater; and dance, musical, comedic and dramatic performances. The 2012 season will feature such shows as Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, Sleeping Beauty, My Fair Lady, The Lion King and many more. The Albuquerque Little Theatre has numerous performances lined up for the upcoming months as well. The Albuquerque Little Theatre produces five main stage shows and three family shows each year, as well occasional special productions, classes and workshops.
