ALBUQUERQUE—June 28, 2007—In a display of life stimulating art and art imitating life, the African American Performing Arts Center (AAPAC) Exhibit Hall at EXPO New Mexico announces a new exhibit featuring the artwork of 30 world-wide artists in the “International Print Portfolio: Artists’ Expressions of Human Rights” produced by the Michigan State University Museum. These prints, text panels and additional artwork are on display until Sunday, July 15.
This project focuses on the promotion of a universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms as cited in the thirty articles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The proclamation adopted by the UN General Assembly resolution in 1948, acknowledges further that:

“The GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms, and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of member states themselves and among peoples of the territories under their jurisdiction.”
According to Don Jordan, AAPAC Program Director, this art exhibit will also include a brief display of the artwork of local and regional artists and community historians in their interpretation of the events and various individuals contributing to the story of human rights and Black History in New Mexico.
The AAPAC Exhibit Hall is located on the west side of Expo New Mexico fairgrounds at 310 San Pedro NE. Access and parking is available through Gate 3 at San Pedro and Copper. The exhibit hall is currently open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; admission: adults $3.00, senior citizens and children $1.00.
