Artspace 116 announces Viridis, an exhibit of new work by Anne Cooper. Interested in repetitive shapes, Cooper creates installations which incorporate living grasses and plant materials. Cooper’s involvement in environmental efforts inform the way she works and the materials she uses. She states, “My intent in my installations is to focus one’s attention on the mundane, small and insignificant in the natural environment, and the depth of beauty and power found there. I am interested in the processes involved in the natural world and view my work as an effort to engage theviewer in this process of life, with its intricacies, death and rebirth, at the same time holding forth the hope that the environmental degradation on our planet will cease.”

Anne Cooper is originally from the Houston, Texas area, but has lived in Albuquerque since the early 1980s. Her work has been seen in solo exhibits around New Mexico. She has been in numerous group shows in New Mexico and in Texas, and her work is in the collections of the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Albuquerque Museum, the Tamarind Institute, and many private collections.
