The University of New Mexico is set to host a series of educational, social and cultural events recognizing American Indian Heritage Month throughout November. The UNM American Indian student, faculty, staff and community invite the entire campus and surrounding community to attend and participate in a variety of programming initiatives.

American Indian Student Services (AISS) will host the opening Kick-off Event, Friday, November 2 at 12:00PM in the Student Union Building Atrium featuring the delivery of a 2012 Proclamation on behalf of UNM President Frank, followed by dance performances from Walatowa Headstart students.

Immediately following Kick-off Event, Guest Keynote Speaker Gyasi Ross is slated to present an interactive lecture entitled “Making it Work: The Native Community and Values as Tools for Academic Success”. Keynote address will take place in the Student Union Ballroom C at 1:00 – 3:00PM. The final event of the day, a book signing, will take place from 3:00PM-4:00PM in the Ethnic Center Foyer (Mesa Vista Hall, 1st Floor) featuring Ross’s book, “Don’t Know Much About Indians (but I wrote about us anyways)”.
