2010 New Mexico State Fair Dates Announced
Fair to be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – EXPO New Mexico / New Mexico State Fair General Manager Craig Swagerty and the New Mexico State Fair Commission today announced the dates for the 2010 New Mexico State Fair. The 2010 Fair will run Friday, September 10 through Sunday, September 26, but will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays during its run.
“Condensing the 2010 Fair is the fiscally responsible thing to do,” said Swagerty. “Mondays and Tuesdays are historically the slowest days for the Fair, so closing on those days will reduce the cost of producing this year’s event considerably while allowing us to focus on quality entertainment and all of the iconic and culturally important State Fair elements New Mexicans and their families have come to expect,” he continued.
“We realize it’s a big change and it will take a little getting used to for some folks, but we’ve done due diligence over the last five months, and closing on Mondays and Tuesdays just makes the most sense given the current economic circumstances,” said State Fair Commission Chairman David “Hossie” Sanchez.
4-H, other livestock competitions and horse shows will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, with a dedicated entry gate open to spectators and participants. A schedule of those events and more information is forthcoming.
“Closing on our slowest days will save money,” Swagerty said, “and bottom line, that’s what we need to do. It will also allow us to pack more fun and value into every day the Fair is open.”
“The goal is to provide a better Fair for everyone involved this year while keeping it viable through these tough times and well into the future.” Chairman Sanchez concluded. “This year Fairgoers, vendors and exhibitors alike can expect more value and better quality.”
