(Albuquerque, NM – May 20, 2010) - Let the theatre come to you this summer onboard the New Mexico Rail Runner Express! Every Saturday in June, July and August the University of New Mexico Department of Theatre Education and Outreach will be performing Shakespeare scenes onboard the train.

“This is something new for us”, says Dewey Cave, Interim Executive Director, Mid-Region Council of Governments. “Other systems around the country have offered similar entertainment, and their passengers have really embraced it”.

Performances will take place only on northbound train #506 and southbound train #509. Each month will feature new Shakespeare scenes. June begins with romance scenes; July will feature comedic scenes while August will showcase scenes of treachery and deceit.

NOTE: Performances will always take place on the bottom floor in the first railcar directly behind the locomotive.
"I hope that this project provides our community a chance to see Shakespeare performed in an accessible and engaging way”, says Lauren Albonico, Director of Shakespeare on the Rail.
