With a back catalog that includes its Grammy-winning debut Revelator, its dazzling live follow-up Everbody’s Talkin’, and a new album slated to drop in late summer, TTB’s 11-piece ensemble led by Derek Trucks, hailed by critics and peers as one of the finest guitar players on the planet, and wife Susan Tedeschi, with her honey-to-husk voice and six-string sting, together have made their live sets can’t miss events. Mixing a blistering blend of blues, soul, jazz, and rock, coupled with a revolving and ever-evolving song list, their concerts have been praised as, “jaw-dropping,” “joyous,” “roaring,” and “transcendent.”
TTB toured throughout the US and Canada for most of 2012, including a run of dates with B.B. King that brought the band to Red Rocks and the Hollywood Bowl for the first time, a headlining spot at Newport Jazz Festival and an outstanding three-night run at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. 2013 kicked off with the band in the studio and have just returned from a series of dates across Australia.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals have gone from Northeast regional favorite to international touring sensation thanks to highly-charting new release and a recent jaunt through Europe and Australia, the latter including a stop at Bluesfest the Sydney Morning Herald called, “stand-out, knock-down.” Bay-area guitarist Eric McFadden brings his punky funk and rock and a local connection to the bill, having taken lessons from New Mexico’s Stanton Hirsch while growing up in Albuquerque.
New Day was founded in 1976 as a safe harbor for Albuquerque’s runaway and homeless youth (ages 11 to 18), of which there are over 8,000. In addition to its Safe Home, New Day has counselors in 14 schools through Albuquerque Public Schools, as well as a Life Skills Academy where youth are taught the basics skills to survive and thrive in the community.
In 2012 New Day received a $1,500,000 federal grant through the City of Albuquerque to build a Transitional Living Facility for youth ages 18-21. This will expand its reach to help those at-risk when they age out of the foster care system and become vulnerable to homelessness, drug addiction and suicide. The facility will be open in the fall of 2013, promoting an ultimate mission to engage at-risk youth and their families in charting a proactive life course that will help them become meaningful and productive members of the community.
Having adopted Tedeschi Trucks Band’s “Shelter,” as its theme song, New Day is proud to welcome TTB for a third time, as this annual event has established itself as a highlight of the summer schedule. The event raised over $60,000 the last two years, and this year New Day has received a challenge grant on the first $20,000 earned. Organizers are hoping for a sell-out and tens of thousands of dollars raised in the process. The only area appearance of this electrifying band is sure to be another memorable New Mexico evening of music and giving.
