Last year’s popular Old Town Friday Night Block/Patio Parties return with four exciting events scheduled for "First Fridays" throughout the season.
The first in the series will be on Friday, May 7 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Plaza Don Luis on Romero Street, adjacent to the Plaza with "International Bluegrass and Folk Music" as the theme. The opportunity to, stroll Old Town’s historic streets, shop for unique items, dine in the area’s restaurants and listen to performances by two excellent groups is not to be missed. And the performances are free!
Entertainment Lineup
6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Adobe Brothers – an eclectic group of "identical quintuplets" (not really!) that play a wide variety of acoustic music, including bluegrass, Celtic, old-time country, Latin, folk and Western swing—a composite style they refer to as "international bluegrass." In one form or another, they have played together since 1979, performing throughout New Mexico and the Southwest. Their music has garnered many awards, for their compositions and instrumentals.
7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Bill Hearne’s Roadhouse Review - Honkytonks, roadhouses, empty whiskey glasses and unrequited love are the brick and mortar of country music, and there isn't a better mason than Bill Hearne. Legally blind since birth, Bill took up the guitar when he was seven. Largely musically self-taught, Bill developed a picking style he calls cross-picking. "Bill Hearne's Roadhouse Revue" includes bassist and vocalist Cathy Faber and Bob Goldstein on lead guitar, mandolin and banjo, with Auge Hays on steel guitar. Their enthusiasm and joy is infectious and audiences everywhere get into the spirit of just pure fun.
Dates and locations for the remaining "First Fridays" are:
Friday, July 2 Church Street – Classical Theme
Friday, August 6 Plaza Combra - Gypsy Jazz
Friday, September 3 Plaza Hacienda – Blues Night
All performances are free and fun, and if last year’s crowds are any indication, visitors will want to arrive early to spend time strolling throughout Old Town.
