Our music community and the National Hispanic Cultural Center will come together on Saturday, February 20, at 2 PM in the Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts to honor Antonia Apodaca, a New Mexican musical and cultural treasure. Bayou Seco’s Jeanie McLerie and Ken Keppeler, long-time friends of Ms. Apodaca, are partnering with the NHCC to organize this special event. Tickets are priced from $10 to $50, and can be purchased at the NHCC box office or through the Center’s website at www.nhccnm.org.
All the performers have chosen to waive their artists’ fees, so that ninety percent of proceeds received by Bayou Seco as part of the partnership will be given to support Ms. Apodaca as she rebuilds after the recent tragic loss of her home, along with decades of musical history and cherished instruments. The NHCC is located at 1701 4th Street SW on the corner of 4th Street and Avenida César Chávez.
Antonia Apodaca was born into a family of musicians in Rociada, NM. A talented guitarist and songwriter and a dynamic button accordion player, she has an extensive repertoire of traditional Hispanic tunes and songs from Northern New Mexico that she learned from her parents and uncles. This extraordinary afternoon of music by some of New Mexico’s best-known and best-loved performers also features Bayou Seco, Trio Jalapeño, José and Max Apodaca, Chuy Martínez, and Otilio Ruiz. Join us to honor a legendary artist, and show your support and appreciation through the tickets you buy!
The National Hispanic Cultural Center, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Hispanic art and culture at the local, state, national, and international levels.
