Sandia Peak Tramway in preparation for their 50th Anniversary Celebration will be receiving new tram cabins. The cabins will be coming via flatbed truck and encased in crates to keep the design of the cars a mystery until the official unveiling on May 7th, 2016. Arrival is estimated between10AM-12PM on Thursday, March 3, 2016.

The cars were manufactured by CWA out of Lucerne, Switzerland the same company that built the original cars for the 1966 opening and the current cars which were installed for the 20th Anniversary of the Tram in May 1986.

Upon arrival the cabins will be removed from the flat bed via crane and then slide into the building for the installation of electrical wiring, radios, controls and other equipment as well as the final graphics.

The Tramway opened on May 7, 1966 and has welcomed over 10.9 million visitors to date and it is anticipated that prior to the installation of the new cars the tram will have transported over 11 million visitors for the 2.7 mile journey to the top of Sandia Peak.
