ALBUQUERQUEThe National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) announces it annual CARNAVAL Celebration on Saturday, February 20 at 8 pm.  Tickets are $15, $20, $25 with a $5 NHCC member discount and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com or in person at the NHCC box office.  The NHCC is located at 1701 4th Street SW on the corner of 4th Street and Avenida César Chávez.
 

Pachamama Carnaval features the ensemble SUKAY, the great Bolivian virtuoso and composer Eddy Navia, the Pachamama World Dance Troupe, Peruvian panpipe and wind instrumentalist Miguel Sisniegas, and Fogo Na Roupa (Clothes on Fire), as well as the legendary Cuban sonero Fito Reinoso.  SUKAY, which has performed for over 30 years, is one of the leading modern groups to transcend cultural barriers, to reclaim and disseminate the traditional songs and contemporary folk music of the rural Andes as a source of cultural pride for all Latin Americans, and to popularize this music for the legions of young people struggling to find new ways of merging traditional and contemporary identities.  The Pachamama World Dance Troupe is directed by internationally renowned choreographer Carlos Carvajal. 

The National Hispanic Cultural Center is also proud to announce that it is celebrating its 10th year which will culminate in a large community celebration this October.  The NHCC, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Hispanic art and culture at the local, state, national, and international levels.
