The New Mexico Senate today (March 9, 2011) confirmed Monique Jacobson as Secretary of the New Mexico Tourism Department. Sec. Jacobson, a Native New Mexican, is a former marketing executive at PepsiCo.

“A healthy tourism sector is critical to a vibrant economy,” Governor Martinez said. “Sec. Jacobson is a dedicated professional whose extensive background as a marketing professional makes her an ideal leader in my administration’s efforts to enhance New Mexico’s image as a premier vacation destination.”

During her 10 years with PepsiCo’s family of companies, Sec. Jacobson worked on iconic brands, such as Gatorade; and most recently served as General Manager and Marketing Director for the Quaker Breakfast Business Unit. She holds a degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

“It is with great honor and a personal passion that I accept this confirmation by the New Mexico Senate,” Sec. Jacobson said. “I see incredible opportunity for the Tourism Department: The opportunity to make every tourism dollar work harder and smarter; the opportunity to ensure our industry partnerships are nurtured and leveraged; and the opportunity to emphasize local community efforts, helping ensure that all New Mexicans share in our successes as we elevate New Mexico’s stature on the world travel stage.”
