Beginning Friday, September 5, 2008 from 5-8:30 P.M., First Friday ARTScrawl tousr selected galleries and exhibits across Albuquerque. On September 19 from 5-8:30 P.M. ARTScrawl will be celebrated in Old Town and along historic Mountain Road. On September 21 Mayor Martin J. Chavez will honor 12 local artists in a ceremony at 2pm at The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. This celebration of the city’s art will end with GO!, a downtown three-day art festival of visual and performing arts September 26-28. The agenda for the September 21st honors ceremony is:
2:15pm - Mayor Martin J. Chavez presents awards to the artists
2:45-3:15 – Meet the artists and see their work
3:15-4:00 – Music and refreshments including world famous biscochitos from Crown Bakery on Mountain Road
Local Treasures artists being honored are Kevin Burges (traditional New Mexico tin work), Joe Cajero (Pueblo Indian sculptor and painter), Donna Loraine Contractor (tapestry), Katheryne Cyman (porcelain ceramics), Charles (Bud) Edmundson (watercolor, pastel and oil paintings), Robert M. Ellis (abstract paintings and drawings), Scott Krichau (metal sculpture), Steve Madsen (wood furniture and sculpture), Frank McCulloch (contemporary landscape paintings), Carol Mullen (mixed media paintings), B.C. Nowlin (oil paintings) and Jeff Otis (oil paintings). There will be exhibits and events throughout the month in local galleries for these artists as well. Each artist will be presented with an original flow painting by Nick Harmon, owner of FHAB Gallery in Downtown Albuquerque (photo attached). Harmon’s unique structural art is composed using pigmented glue and construction materials. The results can be framed (again using construction material), used in furniture or any number of applications.
