Help Connect People to Place at the Open Space Visitor Center

Can you picture yourself spending a couple of hours each week at a gentle retreat within the city limits? Do you relish the idea of sustaining our protection of open spaces and sharing that enjoyment with others of like mind? Become part of the community of Open Space and lend your talents in any number of creative ways.
The City of Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center is seeking volunteers. The Open Space Visitor Center is an interpretive hub for the Open Space program, lands, and resources. Visitors enjoy educational exhibits, art displays, wildlife fields, a Traditions garden, bosque trails, and a variety of talks, workshops, demonstrations and entertainment.

The next volunteer training is scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2010, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm with a half-hour lunch break. Volunteers will enjoy information on the history and geography of the Major Public Open Space program, the history and surroundings of the Visitor Center, a tour of the facility, and volunteer responsibilities. As a volunteer, you will have the chance to learn the art and science of composting in the New Mexico climate, write, make stuff with and for kids, educate, guide, or just sit, watch and share your love of Open Space.

An outside tour is planned for part of the training; please dress appropriately and bring a water bottle. Light refreshments will be served, but you are encouraged to bring a lunch.

The Visitor Center is located at 6500 Coors Boulevard, between Montaño Road and Paseo del Norte at the end of Bosque Meadows Road. Call 897-8831 to register. Become an important part of this special facility and help us Connect People to Place.
