El Museo is a flamenco production highlighting Spanish classical dance and live symphonic accompaniment featuring Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, flamenco dance icon Teo Morca and the University of New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.
Yjastros will perform select pieces from their expansive dance repertory archive highlighting choreographies that are rooted in the Classical Spanish tradition, yet contain elements of Modern, Escuela Bolera and Spanish-Gypsy vocabularies of movement. Featuring members of Yjastros and Artistic Director Joaquin Encinias joined by Principal Dancer Marisol Encinias, alongside world-renowned guest flamenco artist, Teo Morca, El Museo is a holistic arts experience that combines the visual and the aural in order to produce a unique approach to flamenco dance theater.
The 50-piece University of New Mexico Symphony Orchestra ensemble, under the direction of Conductor Jorge Gómez Pérez, will present traditional flamenco music alongside the Romantic and Neo-Classical styles of Manuel de Falla, Antonio Vivaldi and Henry Charles Litolff, with other celebrated 19th and 20th century composers.
El Museo’s protagonist, played by Teo Morca, enlivens works of art through his imagination, exploring the delicate thread that weaves through reality, bordering on fantasy. This psychologically playful concert will move through moods and invent living, breathing works of art through Yjastros’ magical and lyrical movement.
El Museo will premiere at the National Hispanic Cultural Center November 10th, 7 pm; November 11th, 8 pm; and November 12th, 8 pm, with tickets prices ranging from $20 - $40.
