Durango, CO –The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Sky Ute Casino Resort and Southern Ute Tribe proudly present the Native American Heritage Train: The Southern Ute Legacy on June 5, 2011. This combination train ride and cultural performance at Cascade Canyon will feature traditional dances, songs, and drumming.
The train will travel 26 miles through the backcountry wilderness of the San Juan National Forest to Cascade Canyon, where it will stay for one hour and thirty minutes. The performance will begin shortly after the train arrives and will last approximately 45 minutes. Passengers will have the opportunity to explore the area, situated along the Animas River, before departing back to Durango. Lunch items are available for purchase on the concession car. The train departs at 10:15 am and returns to Durango at 3:45 pm. A Native American Blessing will take place on the depot lawn at 9:15 am.
Standard-Class coach and open-air gondola seats and the Deluxe-Class San Juan car are available. Tribal Elders will ride with passengers in the San Juan car for storytelling and conversation. Additional Tribal members will be available throughout the trip to visit with passengers in Standard-Class cars. Standard-Class seats are $79*for adults (12 and over) and $49* for children (ages 4-11) and $99* for Deluxe-Class (all ages).
