ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – Arts, live music, family-friendly entertainment and food come together in the inaugural street festival, “Days and Nights of Route 66 in Nob Hill.” The signature event will start the night of Friday, July 23rd and continue through Saturday, July 24th, in the charming Nob Hill district of Albuquerque.
Local residents and visitors will have the chance to tour the eclectic neighborhood, enjoy locally produced wine and beer, shop at a local growers market, view a vintage auto show, listen to live music performed by a variety of local and national bands, take a trip down the world’s longest slip and slide, and take part in a late evening run. A myriad of family friendly events also make the festival a must.
Throughout the day on Saturday, Albuquerque’s Central Avenue (historic Route 66) will serve as the venue for the street fair. It will be closed to all vehicle traffic from Girard to Washington beginning at 11:00am for the remainder of the day.
For art lovers, the Alternative to Typical Arts and Artisans Markets will be open to the public, as well as a growers market and community displays on the history of the area. Two beer gardens hosted by Blue Moon and two Nob Hill bars will offer local beer and wine. All of Nob Hill’s 33 diverse restaurants will be serving during the festival. Vendors will sell their wares on the sidewalks, and musicians will perform throughout the district.
The Mother Road Classic Car Show, presented by Nob Hill Mainstreet, will be held on Central Avenue from Washington to Solano. The Greaser Round-Up Car Show will take place with music on Central just west of Washington. The Route 66 themed events culminate with the 10th Annual New Mexico Motor Tour & Neon Cruise at dusk, which will end with a classic car parade and car show in Nob Hill. Walking tours of the area will illuminate the history of the historic Route 66.
There will be plenty of events for the family, including the World’s Largest Slip and Slide, presented by Albuquerque The Magazine. Children’s activities also include arts and crafts and jumpers.
Saturday evening events start with Albuquerque’s annual Summerfest at 7pm. Live music hosted by the New Mexico Jazz Festival will be performed on four different stages throughout Nob Hill. Summerfest is headlined by Los Planeros de la 21. The event wraps up with the annual Nob Hill 5K Run through the neighborhood from 11pm to 12:30am.
